Conventions
College Pathway
College recruiting at conventions
A specific opportunity that's often underutilized. Some conventions have strong college recruiting presence — useful for high school dancers targeting BFA programs or college dance teams.
Conventions with strong college presence
- NYCDA — Major college recruiting; BFA program reps attend regularly
- The PULSE — Industry-direct rather than college-direct, but useful for commercial dance pathway
- 24Seven — Mixed presence, depending on city
- Some have dedicated "college day" or recruiter booths
How to leverage convention attendance
- Research which college programs send recruiters before registering
- Prepare audition materials in advance
- Take photos and videos of your dancing (for follow-up)
- Network with current college team members at conventions
- Follow up with recruiters after the convention with a brief, polished email
Realistic expectations
Conventions are exposure opportunities, not commit-on-the-spot moments. Most college decisions involve formal auditions separate from conventions. BFA programs require dedicated auditions on top of convention exposure.
