Conventions

College Pathway

College recruiting at conventions

A specific opportunity that's often underutilized. Some conventions have strong college recruiting presence — useful for high school dancers targeting BFA programs or college dance teams.

Conventions with strong college presence

  • NYCDA — Major college recruiting; BFA program reps attend regularly
  • The PULSE — Industry-direct rather than college-direct, but useful for commercial dance pathway
  • 24Seven — Mixed presence, depending on city
  • Some have dedicated "college day" or recruiter booths

How to leverage convention attendance

  • Research which college programs send recruiters before registering
  • Prepare audition materials in advance
  • Take photos and videos of your dancing (for follow-up)
  • Network with current college team members at conventions
  • Follow up with recruiters after the convention with a brief, polished email

Realistic expectations

Conventions are exposure opportunities, not commit-on-the-spot moments. Most college decisions involve formal auditions separate from conventions. BFA programs require dedicated auditions on top of convention exposure.
