Industry note — DanceOne consolidation:RADIX, NUVO, JUMP, 24SEVEN, The Dance Awards, and Hollywood Vibe are all owned by DanceOne. They share scholarship pipelines, and qualifying at any DanceOne event can feed into The Dance Awards nationals. This means the “independent” circuit is narrower than it looks — know who owns an event before building your season around it.

New to competitions? What to know before you go

Convention vs. Competition

A convention weekend includes master classes with celebrity faculty AND a competition. A competition-only event is just the comp — lower cost, less travel, great for younger/newer teams.

Scoring tiers

Most events award Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum. Top-tier names vary by company ("Stop the Clock," "On the Edge," etc.) — you cannot compare tiers across brands.

Who picks the level?

Entries are placed by weekly training hours and experience. A group enters at the level of its highest dancer. Under-placing is penalized; competing up is always allowed.

Stay-to-play rules

Many events require competing teams to book through the official hotel block. Confirm before you book — staying outside the block can disqualify your registration.

What is a bid?

A bid is an invitation to compete at a prestigious national or world championship event. Bids are earned at qualifying "bid events" throughout the regional season — they are not purchased.

Age cutoff dates

Dancer ages are almost always calculated as of January 1 of the current season. Group ages are typically averaged. Read the specific company's rulebook — cutoff policies vary.

Competition-day apparel from KC Exclusives

Custom team warm-ups, rhinestone bows, bling, and accessories. Handcrafted in South Jersey — get your team looking the part on competition day.
